"2021 Carruades de Lafite"

Si la première référence connue de Lafite remonte à 1234, avec un Gombaud de Lafite, abbé du Monastère de Vertheuil au nord de Pauillac, l’existence de Lafite en tant que Seigneurie médiévale est attestée dès le XIVème siècle.En 1815, M. Lawton dans le journal de la maison de courtage du même nom établit un premier classement des crus du Médoc qui se révèlera très proche du classement de 1855 où il a été classé 1er Grand Cru. Depuis 1962, la gestion de la propriété est réalisée par une équipe unique supervisant Château Lafite Rothschild et Château Duhart-Milon compte tenu de la contiguïté des deux propriétés.


This year more than ever, it was crucial to make the right decisions at the right time. At every step of the growing season, Nature challenged the teams of each estate and all the required decisions to overcome theses challenges were made collectively. Whether it was to overcome the frost, the capricious spring or to decide the harvest dates, each of these decisions shaped the profile of the wines of Domaines Barons de Rothschild in 2021: a vintage in which it was definitively impossible to cheat.

To be noted: 2021 is the first vintage in conversion to Organic Farming for all the estates of Domaines Barons de Rothschild.

Carruades de Lafite 2021, Nothing to hide.

When it is hard to cheat, the true face is revealed. This can summarize the 2021 vintage at Carruades. Resulting from a historically precise selection, Carruades 2021 benefitted from the Merlots from the great terroirs of the plateau. However, youth is the backbone of this vintage: the "complants" (young vines replanted in each plots and harvested separately) stood out, so much that they almost went into the blend of the first wine. These young vines planted on great terroirs learn fast and their voice came out loud and clear this year with the return of a milder vintage. This vintage reveals a very graceful style, which definitely has nothing to hide.
